BSMUST is not being closed

Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University of Science and Technology-BSMUST is not being closed, said Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. AQM Mahbub. He also said that a case was being prepared for the attack on the students seeking justice in the case of rape of a female student. The Vice-Chancellor informed so at a discussion meeting held in front of the administrative building of the university on Saturday (February 26). The meeting was held at 5:30 pm where the teachers and students of different departments including the proctor of the university were present. During the meeting, the Vice-Chancellor said, "We will make arrangements for video conferencing for our students with the Hon'ble Prime Minister in case of rape of students and attack on teachers and students by the locals." We are in talks to have a direct conversation with the Prime Minister. Regarding the current situation of the university, the vice-chancellor said that a case would be filed in the case of attack on the students seeking justice. The university is not being closed for the time being. However, all classes will be closed until the situation returns to normal. He advised the students to exercise restraint and caution till the situation returns to normal. Earlier, the whole campus was abuzz with student protests for the third day. As part of the day's program, students staged human chains, silent protests and demonstrations demanding the maximum punishment for rapists and assailants. Incidentally, a student of the university was gang-raped after 9:30 pm on Wednesday (February 23). The students blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway from this morning demanding justice for the incident. Teachers and students, including the university's vice-chancellor, have been attacked twice by the local Chhatra League activists for demanding justice for the incident of the rape.
